Weeping Style is a traditional soft circular art
with deep roots in the Samurai Culture. In keeping with the tradition,
this class is taught merely for self defense and self defense only. This
class is exceptionally important for law enforcement, military, or
security personnel. Therefore the class is truly about one thing:
self-defense.
The basic techniques are the 8
hand techniques or wrist locks, which are based on samurai sword
technique and serve to teach the student how the body can be locked and
how to relax their own body. Students will begin learning wristlocks
and how to apply them to an opponent. The Students will then progress to
a level in which they will be able to lock, control, or throw one or
even many opponents from a wrist lock, neck grab or even a punch. The
goal is to have the students able to foresee an attack and react
accordingly with a relaxed mind and body.
As the hand techniques are based
on samurai sword technique, students will be taught how to move the body
and how the wristlock relates to the use of a sword technique.
High-ranking students who have demonstrated a relaxed mind and body
while performing technique will be allowed to begin to work with the
sword. As students attend seminars they will begin to learn proper
techniques in drawing the sword, etc. We do not play with swords here.
Sword arts are very serious, and take an extreme amount of time,
dedication, and commitment, it is not a game or something you can teach
yourself.
Because this art is for
self-defense, and higher ranked students will be required to defend a
strike from an attacker, it is recommended students cross train in other
arts. It is recommended students spend time training in Thai Boxing to
learn how to throw a proper punch. Thai Boxing will also help students
learn to read and opponent’s telegraphs before an attack. It is also
recommended that students spend time learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to
have a basic knowledge of ground defense.
